Africa may not meet target on energy, says new UN Economic Commission for Africa report
$40 billion per year is needed to meet the continent's energy needs.
(...) He pointed out that “high energy production costs, transmission and distribution losses (18-25%) means that utilities need to be constantly bailed out and subsidies implemented for users.”
Missing the target
At this rate, and according to the SDG 7 tracking report, Africa will not meet the SDG 7 targets due to limited supply and access to electricity.

Women and girls are often targeted directly by terrorist
groups and subjected to gender-based violence, including human trafficking, rape and
forced prostitution, as well as marriage or pregnancy. (...) Terrorist groups disproportionally
target women and girls through acts of gender-based violence, in particular sexual
violence, as a means of achieving tactical, strategic and ideological aims. (...) Programmatic
output would depend on reaching the necessary target amounts within a specific
period of time in order to start programmatic activities and cover associated costs.

Brazzaville – COVID-19 vaccine shipments to Africa must rise by over seven times from around 20 million per month to 150 million each month on average if the continent is to fully vaccinate 70% of its people by September 2022.
The 70% target was agreed at the global COVID-19 summit hosted by the United States of America on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly this week.

To curtail this impact, Target 4 of Goal 14 of the Sustainable Development Agenda adopted in 2015 by the UN General Assembly, specifically urges the international community to “effectively regulate harvesting and end overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices” by 2020.
Meeting this ambitious target requires strong awareness-raising efforts to draw the attention of the general public to the negative impacts of illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing activities, an activity in which FAO has been actively engaged.
