PROTECTION AGAINST VIOLENCE AND DISCRIMINATION BASED ON SEXUAL ORIENTATION AND GENDER IDENTITY :NOTE / BY THE SECRETARY-GENERAL
It has been an
ordering principle for the socioeconomic, cultural, civil and political framing within
States and at the regional and global levels and is a cornerstone of patriarchal and
heteronormative concepts that are at the origin of most injustice, including
discrimination and violence against women. (...) The mandate holder is particularly concerned by the levels of violence against
LGBT persons that are condoned and, at worst, promoted by such narratives and
practices. (...) This is unfortunately only one example of the levels of repression to
which LGBT persons are subjected in their daily lives, and which include killings,
torture, kidnapping, beatings, harassment, threats and – as has been well documented
by the mandate holder – unconscionable levels of social exclusion.

Following the panel presentations, seven Committee members highlighted the Commit- tee’s achievements and stressed the need for additional resources to support its work.
(...) Overall, the report concluded that the Commit- tee was well placed to make a distinctive, practical and enduring contribution to improving international tax cooperation, and explored opportunities for creating greater synergies between the UN policy-development and capacity-building work and that of other interna- tional organizations and regional bodies. (...) Masatsugo Asakawa (Japan), Chair, Commit- tee on Fiscal Affairs (CFA), OECD, stated that giving the UN a greater role in the OECD tax work would sup- port the UN work in that area and would be an efficient way to strengthen collaboration between the two organi- zations.

REVIEW OF NOTIFICATIONS OF FINAL REGULATORY ACTION TO BAN OR SEVERELY RESTRICTED A CHEMICAL: DIBROMOCHLOROPROPANE (DBCP). SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION PROVIDED BY CANADA
The further incr
in plasma follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone the moderate decr
in the mean testosterone level in non-recovered workers may suggest a delayed toxic
effect of DBCP on Sertoli and Leydig cell function during the four yr follow-up period.
(...) CONSIDERATION
IS GIVEN TO POSSIBLE EFFECTS RESIDUAL LEVELS COULD PRODUCE IN
CONSUMERS. [REF-61]
The effects of exposure to 1,2-dibromo-3-chloropropane (DBCP) for 1-7 yr on
testicular physiology were evaluated in men by measuring the circulating levels of
follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, androstenedione, testosterone, and
dihydrotestosterone every 4 hr throughout a 24 hr period, and correlating this data
with semen analysis testicular biopsy. (...) The observed elevated levels of
luteinizing hormone in the face of normal testosterone concn suggest damage to the
Leydig cells, with the chronic overstimulation of those cells by luteinizing hormone
being necessary to maintain essentially normal testosterone concn.
