PROMOTION AND PROTECTION OF ALL HUMAN RIGHTS, CIVIL, POLITICAL, ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL RIGHTS, INCLUDING THE RIGHT TO DEVELOPMENT : INFORMATION / SUBMITTED BY THE AFGHANISTAN INDEPENDENT HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION ; NOTE BY THE SECRETARIAT
In one story heard by AIHRC,
insurgents executed eight day laborers who were traveling home for Eid after completing their
work at an American base. (...) In one case documented by AIHRC in Khost province in 2007, intimidation came in
the form of insurgents blowing off house doors of over two-dozen civilians who were viewed by
the insurgents as being aligned with the government. 19 The insurgence have also used
intimidation to impose a ban on villagers from traveling to government controlled areas for their
daily needs and instruct them to instead travel to Pakistan or insurgent controlled areas. (...) I was standing in front of my house when four armed
men traveling in a white Corolla stopped […] and said that I was called to come
to the district court….

NOTE VERBALE DATED 24 SEPTEMBER 2013 FROM THE PERMANENT MISSION OF LEBANON TO THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AND OTHER INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS IN GENEVA ADDRESSED TO THE SECRETARIAT OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL
It should be noted that
the Philippines, which used to ban its female citizens from traveling to Lebanon for
work, partially lifted this ban after witnessing the progress made by the Ministry of
Labor with regard to guaranteeing the rights of these female workers, and sough the
preparation of an MoU and a draft bilateral agreement to be signed with Lebanon.
By partially lifting the ban, what is meant is allowing Philippinos working in
Lebanon to travel to the Philippines by virtue of their work permits and return to
Lebanon without any obstacles.

The police carrying out the operations (those
driving the vehicles and committing the murders) are generally ordered by senior police
to pick up a specified individual at a particular location (often his home, workplace, or a
road on which he is believed to be traveling).14
• While most suspects are individually targeted, police will generally also detain others
who may be accompanying the target at the time of arrest

NOTE VERBALE DATED 2005/04/18 FROM THE PERMANENT MISSION OF CUBA TO THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA ADDRESSED TO THE OFFICE OF THE UNITED NATIONS HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS
In furthering its plans for subjugating the nation, the Bush administration has no hesitation in flagrantly
violating the constitutional right of American citizens to travel at will to a country with which the United
States is not at war - at least, not so declared publicly. (...) In this connection, in its Resolution XXI (document A/59/503/Add.2) “Respect for the right to universal
freedom of travel and the vital importance of family reunification” passed in December 2004, the UN
General Assembly called on "all States to guarantee the universally recognized freedom of travel to all
foreign nationals legally residing in their territory".
(...) The total for 1958 of those
traveling to the United States on temporary visas was over 72,600.

COOPERATION WITH THE UNITED NATIONS, ITS REPRESENTATIVES AND MECHANISMS IN THE FIELD OF HUMAN RIGHTS : REPORT OF THE SECRETARY-GENERAL
It is the view of the Government that any allegations of intimidation or
acts of reprisal against individuals or their families because of their human rights work are
untrue and false; and anyone making such allegations is merely trying to cover up the fact
that legal proceedings against them or any of their relatives are owing to violations and acts
prohibited or criminalized by national law. Regarding the travel ban on Ms. Ebtesam
Abdulhusain Ali-Alsaegh, the Government indicated that a judicial order was issued in
April 2017 barring her from travel as part of a different case where she was charged with
A/HRC/42/30
20 GE.19-15332
taking part in an unauthorized public assembly. (...) Allegations of patterns of intimidation and reprisals in Cuba continued in the
reporting period, both prior to engaging with the United Nations as well as upon return in
A/HRC/42/30
24 GE.19-15332
the form of travel bans and restrictions.67 In August 2018, CERD noted with concern
information on travel restrictions placed on human rights defenders, preventing them from
participating in the Committee’s session.

NOTE VERBALE DATED 2005/04/18 FROM THE PERMANENT MISSION OF CUBA TO THE UNITED NATIONS OFFICE AT GENEVA ADDRESSED TO THE OFFICE OF THE UNITED NATIONS HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS
- The restrictions on American citizens traveling to Cuba are stepped up
Letters of warning were sent to more than 1.226 Americans from the Office of Foreign Assets Control of
the US Treasury (OFAC), double the amount sent during the last four years of the Clinton
Administration. (...) Following instructions from the White House,
the Department of Homeland Security has invested all its intelligence resources in catching those who
travel illegally to Cuba.
- The so-called ‘people-to-people’ exchanges were banned
On the 24th of March, 2003, the US government withdrew permission for the people-to-people
educational exchanges, thus restricting the few licenses that were awarded for academic and cultural
exchange trips between the two countries. (...) On the 12th of November 2003, in view of this permanent threat and in order to ensure that the
President was not forced to veto a bill that had two-party support, the bicameral Conference Committee
of the Congress of the United States that was studying the bill on budget allotment for the Treasury and
Transport Departments, decided to undemocratically eliminate the amendment of the bill which fought
to relax travel restrictions imposed on American citizens wishing to travel to Cuba, violating all the
norms and regulations of Congress in the process.
