REPORT OF THE INFORMATION SYSTEMS COORDINATION COMMITTEE ON ITS 4TH SESSION, GENEVA, 7-9 OCTOBER 1996
All agencies are
to be required to register their main Internet universal resource locators
(URLs) with ISCC and to notify ISCC of any changes for reflection on the
official locator.
17. Web sites of individual United Nations bodies should contain a link,
preferably on the home page or main URL, to the official Web site locator so as
/...
(...) In particular, the Web site locator would provide a systematic method for
access to all sites within the system from any site, provided agencies included
hyperlinks on their own home pages. It was clarified that approximately one
third of agencies had already provided such a hyperlink without waiting for the
Task Force recommendation to be adopted by ISCC, and another third provided one
on subsidiary pages on their Web site.
53. In the ensuing discussion, exchanges of experiences were provided on the
Web site locator.

QUESTIONS RELATING TO INFORMATION : REPORT OF THE SPECIAL POLITICAL AND DECOLONIZATION COMMITTEE (4TH COMMITTEE) : GENERAL ASSEMBLY, 58TH SESSION
Notes with concern that the multilingual development and enrichment of
the United Nations web site has been slower than expected, because of a lack of
resources, among other factors, and that content-providing offices have not, in
general, been making their materials available on the United Nations web site in all
six official languages;
64. (...) Reaffirms its request to the Secretary-General to ensure, until such a
decision has been taken and implemented, to the extent possible and while
maintaining an up-to-date and accurate web site, the equitable distribution of
financial and human resources within the Department of Public Information
allocated to the United Nations web site among all official languages on a
continuous basis, and to make every possible effort to ensure also that all materials
contained on the web site that do not change and do not need regular maintenance
are made available in all six official languages;
66. (...) Notes that the integration of the Official Document System with the
United Nations web site will significantly enhance the multilingual nature of the site
and will lead to efficiencies throughout all Secretariat departments through the
elimination of duplicate formatting and duplicate posting of documents on the site;

maintaining an up-to-date and accurate web site, the equitable distribution of
financial and human resources within the Department of Public Information
allocated to the United Nations web site among all official languages on a
